Abstract

As a well-established industry in many countries, textiles and composites have a substantial influence on global economies. Sustainability, innovation, product quality, production costs, and technology are just a few of the factors that impact the level of competition in this sector. Converting these inputs into value-added products is a key driver of industry expansion. In the textile and composites industry, production cost is an important factor in competitiveness. Production costs can be reduced by increasing efficiency, minimizing waste, and streamlining the supply chain, since the sector requires a lot of people. Another crucial element is technology, which enables the production of high-quality goods with enhanced performance and functionality. Businesses can't stay competitive without innovation, which helps them differentiate their products from competitors' and meet changing customer needs. Because of the growing demand for eco-friendly products, sustainability has emerged as an essential feature. Sustainable practices allow businesses to save money, increase output, and appeal to environmentally conscious consumers. Adding value to textiles and composites using these competitiveness traits is key to the industry's continued growth and prosperity. The unique qualities, capabilities, and benefits that value-added goods provide set them apart from commodity items. Consequently, companies are able to increase their pricing and generate larger profits.

Abstract

There has been a recent uptick in the demand for technical textiles and other high-value products on international marketplaces. Many nations have shifted their manufacturing focus to these items in the recent decade in an effort to boost their economic standing and compete on a global scale. Using Bursa as an example, this research intends to shed light on the present state of the textile sector in Türkiye and its shift towards technological textiles with higher value additions. This article examines Türkiye's role in the current global trade quantities of products, as well as import-export data. Also covered are the latest developments in the industry as well as the state of the market for technical textiles. Worldwide sales of technical textiles reached around $118 billion, up 3.38 percent from the previous year. With a decline of -12.91 percent from the previous year, Türkiye's exports in 2021 were 2.413 billion dollars. With the exception of a small number of product categories, the Grubel-Lloyd Index analysis of Türkiye's technical textile industry showed that trade within the industry is bidirectional. All technical textile products had an average index value of 0.7968. Based on their intended use, technical textiles are grouped into twelve distinct types. Subcategories of technical textiles such as Mobiltech, Indutech, and Packtech are expected to have the most significant trade products by 2028.

Abstract

The demand for high-value products, including technological textiles, has recently increased on global marketplaces. In an attempt to improve their economic position and compete on a global basis, numerous nations have turned their manufacturing attention to these items in the past ten years. The current status of Türkiye's textile sector and its transition towards technology textiles with better value additions will be illuminated by this research, which will use Bursa as an example. With the use of import-export statistics, this article analyses Türkiye's position in the present state of global trade volumes of items. The current status of the technical textiles market and the most recent innovations in the field are also discussed. Technical textiles saw a 3.38 percent increase in sales to about $118 billion on a global scale. At 2.413 billion dollars, Türkiye's exports in 2021 were down 12.91 percent from the previous year. Trade within Türkiye's technical textile industry is bidirectional, according to the Grubel-Lloyd Index analysis, with a few exceptions. An average index value of 0.7968 was recorded for all technical textile items. There are twelve main categories of technical textiles classified by their function. Trade products are projected to be particularly prominent in the Mobiltech, Indutech, and Packtech subcategories of technical textiles by the year 2028.

Process Engineer: Technical Benchmark, Decision Maker and Liaison Center

  • Ionuț UNCU

RECENT J. (2024), 72:055-063

https://doi.org/10.31926/RECENT.2024.72.055

Abstract

In modern day industrial processes, lack of direction and clarity can often incur heavy losses. In order to avoid such scenarios, this paper proposes the relatively new role of process engineer (PE) within a discrete manufacturing plant to serve as a liaison center for all other activities—simultaneously functioning as a technical benchmark and a decision maker at the interface of their own area of expertise, the product development flow, the organizational chart of the plant, and the project management team. This is expected to reinforce economic sustainability and technological development in the industry. To this end, we first establish the primary requirements and responsibilities of the PE. In many organizations, the roles and responsibilities of various employees are not sufficiently well-defined, leading to ambiguous interactions between departments, large-scale inefficiency, and a significant increase in expenses. The primary tasks of the process engineer would be to help achieve industrial expectations and utilize the labor advertisement market directly or indirectly. Thus, the appointment of engineering graduates as PEs can be mutually beneficial for both the academic and industrial sectors. It would provide security of employment to fresh graduates, while their fast integration into industrial companies following graduation would secure a fast return on industrial investment.

RECENT J. (2024), 72:064-075

https://doi.org/10.31926/RECENT.2024.72.064

Abstract

The quality of the surfaces is an important characteristic pursued when processing the parts used in the construction of machines. There is a constant search for new, original processing schemes and tools, which lead to the best possible results. For this, the authors have designed an original lathe tool, with inclined tangential cutting edge with adjustable inclination, for which a patent application has been submitted. By using this tool, a large number of tests with representative processing parameters were performed on 42CrMo4QT steel specimens, considering a complete research plan. All tests were performed with the same depth of cut, but different speeds, feed rates and inclination of the cutting edge of the tool. The roughness of the obtained surfaces was measured using a high-performance electronic roughness meter. For comparison, processing under similar conditions was performed using a normal turning tool. The present paper presents a mathematical model for the theoretical roughness in turning with an inclined tangential edge, analyses the influence of the working parameters on the roughness and compares the ideal values with values obtained experimentally.
