TEAMWORK AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT IN TODAY’S BUSINESS
» Abstract. During the last decades
teamwork has become an important part of competitiveness in the
industrial business. Companies have seen the synergies and benefits in
cross-organisational teams utilising the different deep knowledge from
specialists. A severe demand for successful and global companies is to
be able to develop their products for the global market with a speed
giving them the competitive advantage – this requires efficient
international teamwork between different cultures. Engineers are some of
the employed just in the middle of this development and need these
qualifications from their education as a basis. These new engineers need
personal qualifications which are very much focussed on the team goal,
the peak capabilities of the other team members, assertive behaviour,
openness, respect to other people who ever they are, neglect the
personal stress factors and so on. These capabilities can be learned and
trained during their education in the universities. The institutions and
the professors have to take that into consideration as a substantial
part of their education programs.

SUSTAINABLE COMPANIES
» Abstract. A company, as a system,
submits to the sustainable development concept, because the sustainable
development satisfies the requirements according to continuous
functioning, of each existing system, on an undefined future and without
exhausting the main resources. From these points of views in sustainable
companies the technology has to become itself a resource pf specific
management, the management of technology.

LEAN MANUFACTURING ANALYSING PROJECTS BY
STUDENT GROUPS IN SMALL AND MEDIUM SIZE ENTERPRISE COMPANIES
»
Abstract. Companies working according to the LEAN concept achieve
remarkable improvements in efficiency. In Denmark larger companies
already have adopted the Lean Thinking to a certain extent. However, the
industrial structure in Denmark consists of many SME companies (Small
and Medium size Enterprise companies) and a small number of larger
companies. Many SME companies now wish to follow this track. For the
production engineer, it is a core competence to get the most value out
of the resources of the company and to make products most efficiently
through analysing. To fulfil this task, the production engineer must
combine knowledge about technology and logistics in order to maximize
value added according to the production and the production control. This
paper presents typical results achieved by adopting the Lean concept
compared to results and problems shown in these projects from very
different SME companies. The projects are performed by students in
groups of three to five, as part of their 4th semester of the B.ENG. in
Manufacturing and Management. Key words in the projects are: LEAN
Manufacturing (how to get started), Value Stream Mapping (current state-
and future state mapping) and LEAN Tools. The projects involve Plan of
Information to company and employees, Plan of Implementation and
Management Summary (Management Report). The Projects may also involve
related ideas such as Kanban, QRM (Quick Response Management), TPM
(Total Productive Maintenance), OEE (Overall Equipment Efficiency), TQM
(Total Quality Manufacturing), Lean Accounting and ABC (Activity Based
Costs).

CUTTING TECHNIQUE WITH A FUTURE
» Abstract. Plasma cutting is
advance thermal cutting method. It is a process where an open arc can be
constricted by passing through a small nozzle from the electrode to the
workpiece. Plasma is generated by exposing a gas stream to the electrons
from an electric arc. High velocity electrons generated by the arc
impact gas molecules, and ionize them. Plasma cutting utilizes
electrically conductive gas to transfer energy from an electrical power
source through a plasma cutting torch to the metal being cut. It does
not require a preheat cycle, cuts any metal that conducts electricity,
minimizes the heat affected zone, and yields a cut with a small kerf.
Cuts can be made from thick foil thickness up to 250 mm thick plate.
Today, it is used on nearly all types of conducting engineering metals,
such as: carbon steels, stainless steels, aluminium, copper, brass, cast
metals, and exotic alloys. Precise cut with square kerf, clean face and
dross free enables plasma cutting to be finish machining operation. The
basic plasma cutting system consists of a power supply, an arc starting
circuit and a torch. These system components provide the electrical
energy, ionization capability and process control that is necessary to
produce high quality, highly productive cuts on a variety of different
metals. The power supply is a constant current power source. The output
current (amperage) of the power supply determines the speed and cut
thickness capability of the system. The main function of the power
supply is to provide the correct energy to maintain the plasma arc after
ionization. The arc starting circuit is high frequency generator circuit
that produces an voltage of 5 000 to 10 000 volts at approximately 2
megahertz. This voltage is used to create a high intensity arc inside
the torch to ionize the gas, thereby producing the plasma. The torch
serves as the holder for the consumable nozzle and electrode, and
provides cooling (either gas or water) to these parts. The nozzle and
electrode constrict and maintain the plasma jet. The power source and
arc starter circuit are connected to the torch via interconnecting leads
and cables. These leads and cables supply the proper gas flow,
electrical current flow and high frequency to the torch to start and
maintain the process. The high investment costs is one limiting factor
for application of the plasma cutting machines. The trend today is
making plasma cutting process a realistic alternative to other cutting
methods.

ENGINEERS IN A GLOBAL WORLD. AN
EXPERIENCE REPORT ABOUT THE INTERNATIONALISATION OF OUC WITH AN
ORGANISATIONAL AND STRATEGIC PERSPECTIVE
» Abstract. Globalisation influences
all perspectives of society today and thus also the engineering
education. Denmark, being a high-income country cannot compete on it’s
engineer’s technical excellence alone, as companies start to outsource
not only their production but also development, i.e. traditional
engineering tasks. Consequently graduates have to meet new demands in
order to stay valuable on the job market. Odense University College of
Engineering started at process to educate engineers with a broader set
of skills apart from the academic and technical ones and
internationalisation is one of the tools. This article will be
addressing internationalisation of engineering programmes on the basis
of the internationalisation process at Odense University College of
Engineering. The article will focus on first the development of
strategies and activities and then the organisational impact, problems
and challenges combined with executing the strategy. Finally, the
article will conclude on a number of important principles or pieces of
advice when internationalising an institution. Last but not least, we
will address some of the future challenges for the internationalisation
process at Odense University College of Engineering in particular and
higher education institutions in Denmark in general.

THE APPLICATION OF REAL SOLIDIFICATION
MODULES METHOD IN THE VIEW TO ASSURE UNIFORM SOLIDIFICATION FOR CAST
WHEELS WITH SMALL DIMENSIONS
» Abstract. In the paper there is
presented a study regarding the real solidification modules application
in the view of solidification analysis of wheel type castings. There are
calculated the partial solidification modules for the wheel components
and dead heads used in seven variants. It is highlighted that the
analysis of wheels solidification using ideal solidification modules (geometrical)
lead to errors. There is evidenced as constructive measure to obtain
uniform solidification of the wheel, the disk thickness diminish
comparing to rim or hub thickness.

THE PROBLEM OF OPERATIONAL SPACE CONTROL
FOR REDUNDANT ROBOTS
» Abstract. Robots manipulator’s
motions are typically specified in the operational space – the robotic
task space – in the terms of the time history of the end-effector’s
position, velocities and acceleration. This approach is devoted to
control of rigid redundant robots manipulator in the operational space.
In this approach, we will analyze an important property of redundant
robots manipulator, namely redundancy.

THE COMPOSITES, MATERIALS OF PRESENT AND
FUTURE
» Abstract. The rapid development of the
composites was generated by the necessity of finding new solutions in
different technical domains and has the purpose to improve and optimize.
Substituting the conventional classic metal structures, with the
composite structure there are many advantages due to high stiffness and
resistance. Joints of composites, bonded or bolted, began more and more
to replace the metal joints. Because of this, and many more reasons, the
design with composites became a very attractive subject for the
researchers, to discover new materials and to expand their utility in
the most diverse domains.

"JUST IN TIME" PRODUCTION
» Abstract. There are two systems which
dominated the production within the company in the last decades. Two
elements characterize the respective concepts. One of them has the name
"Just in Time" being an extremely important factor is the assembly
industry where each product should be realized only in the demanded
quantity, at the demanded time, the stock being reduced to the minimum.
The second factor is destined to stimulate the active participation of
the employees to the production improvement and to the improvement of
the working conditions.

THE STUDY OF THE RELATIVE SPEED FOR THE
SIMULATION OF A TECHNOLOGICAL PROCESS
» Abstract. The problem of calculating the
geometry of the knives used for toothing conical gears with curved teeth
is the following: knowing the generating curve of the plane wheel, it is
required to determine the profile of the chipping edge of the knife and
the profile of the abrasive tool used for relieving that will ensure a
minimal amount of errors on resharpening. The optimal shape of the
positioning surfaces of the knife, as a mathematical expression of the
conditions imposed upon the tool, is Archimedes’s helix. The profile of
the chipping edge in the calculus section is determined by intersecting
the knife’s reliving surface plane with the generating curve. The paper
determines the relative speed of the processing with the purpose of
using it on simulating the kinematics of the technology of processing
the profile of the knives used for toothing conical gears with curved
teeth.
